Community Tourism Project

In June 2018, The Australian Government through the Market Development Facility (MDF) assisted SANASA International to undertake a market scoping study in the Sabaragamuwa Province to implement a project aimed at supporting the development of a community tourism programme in this region. Subsequent to the market scoping, SANASA International, with the assistance of the EFFECS project, conducted a value chain analysis of the tourism sector in the region to assess the development of local businesses aligned with the tourism value chain. Based on the two studies, SANASA is currently in the process of designing a project to support local women, youth, and small businesses to be more engaged with a community tourism programme, which is focusing on wellbeing and agro-tourism. The programme will build on the work undertaken by SEFEC under EFFECS project in the Northern province and will be improvised with the active collaboration with the tourism value chain actors and the cooperatives in the region.
