Federation of Thrift and Credit Cooperative Societies in Sri Lanka

The SANASA  Federation is the Apex organization of SANASA Movement with a 1 million membership affiliated to over 8000 registered thrift and credit cooperative societies with 40 divisional level second-tier cooperative unions.

At the initial stages of the movement when it was revitalized under the leadership of Dr.Kiriwandeniya, the Federation was formed to facilitate the replication of the best practices of the revitalization efforts of Kegalle in the rest of the country.

The Federation provides leadership, guidance and direction to the Movement and engages with the regulatory bodies and international cooperative community on behalf of the Movement. It introduces prudential regulatory/management systems and takes leadership in innovating new strategies to add value to the development process undertaken by the movement.

The SANASA Federation is recognized as one of the strongest non-government organizations in Sri Lanka and an institution that drives one of the best microfinance models in the world.
